Introduction
-
What does PRP stand for?
PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. It’s a non-surgical treatment that takes advantage of your body’s own natural healing process. PRP treatment will stimulate skin and follicle recovery.
Platelet Rich Plasma refers to the part of your blood that contains platelets and other growth factors. These platelets and growth factors help to stimulate collagen production – making PRP treatment perfect if you want to see rejuvenated skin.
PRP treatments are perfect for reducing signs of ageing and combatting a wide range of skin complaints.
-
What is PRP?
PRP therapy has been endorsed and is widely used by many celebrities and athletes. It’s a revolutionary treatment that is non-surgical and results in minimal downtime.
PRP uses your own healing abilities and plasma to transform the look and feel of your skin by promoting collagen production in the skin.
PRP is often coined “the vampire facial” in the media because the treatment requires the use of your own blood.
-
What is the PRP and iPRF procedure like?
PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma.
iPRF stands for Injectable Platelet Reduced Fibrin
iPRF and PRP are both produced by using your own blood. The procedure is as follows:
Blood is taken from the arm (in the same way as blood is taken for routine blood tests).
The blood is collected in tubes which are then placed in a centrifuge machine which spins the blood to separate the cells within it.
The tube is then removed from the centrifuge and within the tube the blood has now separated into dark red blood at the bottom of the tube and a more clear solution at the top of the tube which is the PRP / iPRF required.
The PRP / iPRF is then drawn up into a syringe which is then used to inject into areas requiring regeneration and rejuvenation.
-
What is the difference between PRP and iPRF?
Both PRP and iPRF are very similar and used in the same way. At The Wellington Clinic we use the newer iPRF because it contains a stronger concentration of the valuable cells required for regeneration and it also contains no other chemicals.
For PRP the tube contains anticoagulants and a special gel to extract the growth factors and platelets. The growth factors are then only released and active for a few minutes once injected.
For iPRF clean tubes are used and so there are no artificial anticoagulants or gels introduced into the product injected.
The higher concentration of growth factors and other regenerative cells are then released into the skin for 7 days allowing the cells opportunity to absorb them as much and as efficiently as possible. iPRF is the new more advanced version of the traditional PRP.
-
How could PRP help you?
After the first treatment, you’ll first start seeing results. Although we recommend following a course of treatment to achieve the results you want, you will see smoother and rejuvenated skin from the first PRP treatment.
PRP therapy is widely used in the healthcare sector – and not just for aesthetic purposes either.
PRP therapy is used in neurosurgery, oral surgery, plastic and cosmetic surgery and orthopaedics and sport medicine.
This treatment is not only revolutionary but there’s little to no pain associated with PRP treatments and there are very few reported side effects.
-
What are the benefits of having PRP / iPRF treatment?
By bringing all the valuable cells required for regeneration to the area treated, the skin is then able to restore and replenish its collagen and elastin content and the cells are able to take up the growth factors and essentials required to restore themselves.
The result of a vampire facelift is improved skin complexion, skin elasticity and an overall lifting effect. Risks are minimal with this treatment as iPRF is extracted from your own blood with no other additives.
Allergy and other risks normally involved with injectable procedures are therefore not possible with this treatment making it ideal from that aspect too.
-
What is the PRP treatment like?
We will freshly prepare a PRP treatment for you, and then Dr Marjan Goodacre will expertly inject the treatment into the problem area of the skin.
As we are introducing fluid to the skin, you can expect some swelling of the area and you might feel a warm sensation during the treatment.
The area might be slightly swollen, red or bruised for a few days after treatment.
The PRP treatment’s growth factors and platelets will begin to work within the days and weeks after the treatment and your skin will begin to rejuvenate.

PRP Treatment London FAQs
-
Why Should I Choose a iPRF / PRP Facial?
As we age, our skin will naturally lose collagen and elastin. This causes our skin to sag over time and the appearance of wrinkles will become more noticeable. iPRF or PRP therapy can help give your skin a youthful appearance without the need to have invasive surgery.
iPRF is also a great treatment for those suffering from uneven texture or acne scarring.
-
Is iPRF Therapy Right for Me?
iPRF therapy comes with a multitude of benefits, such as its anti-aging properties. The treatment can also be used as a hair loss treatment and can be additionally used to prevent dark circles under the eyes.

What does iPRF contain?
iPRF contains platelets, fibrin and stem cells. iPRF contains no anticoagulants, making the treatment 100% natural.
-
How long does the treatment take?
The procedure time is just 45 minutes, and could even be carried out in your lunch break!
-
Will PRP hurt?
